Benefits Information
Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) strives to provide you and your family with a comprehensive and valuable benefits package. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of our benefits.
If you are a full-time employee at N3B, you are eligible to enroll in the benefits outlined in this guide. Full-time employees are those who work 30 hours or more per week.
Enrollment takes place in one of the following:
A) During new employee orientation
B) During the annual open enrollment period
C) If you experience a life-changing qualifying event, such as marriage, divorce or legal separation; birth or adoption of a child; change in child’s dependent status; death of a spouse, child or other qualified dependent; change in residence; change in employment status; or change in coverage under another employer-sponsored plan
health insurance
N3B offers employees two, comprehensive, high-quality medical plan options that include prescription drug coverage through BlueCrossBlueShield of New Mexico. The options feature a network of doctors and specialists who have agreed to provide services at a discounted price. You can see providers outside of the network, but if you use the in-network providers, you will pay less.
dental insurance
N3B offers employees dental insurance and pays the cost of the monthly premium for the employee and approved dependents. Dental coverage is important to your overall health and wellness. You can enroll in dental benefits through Delta Dental New Mexico for yourself and your family. If you use in-network providers, you will pay less.
Vision
N3B offers employees vision insurance that entitles you to specific eye care benefits and pays the cost of the monthly premium for the employee and approved dependents. Our policy covers routine eye exams and other procedures and provides specified dollar amounts or discounts for the purchase of eyeglasses and contact lenses.

N3B offers employees Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts. N3B also offers legal insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time off benefits, paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement.
Education Assistance
Employees are eligible for a maximum of $5,250 for career-related education assistance per calendar year. The successful completion criterion for undergraduate course work is a C or better. For graduate course work the criterion is a B or better.
401 K retirement plan
N3B provides a 401 (k) retirement plan to help you secure your financial future and makes it convenient to save through payroll deduction. Your contributions can be made on a before tax basis or an after tax basis (i.e. Roth).
Life and Disability Insurance
N3B provides eligible employees with basic life insurance based on your annual earnings up to a maximum of $50,000. N3B also offers accidental death and dismemberment coverage equal to the amount of basic life. N3B pays for the full cost of these benefits, meaning you are not responsible for paying any monthly premiums.
N3B provides full-time employees with short-term disability income benefits through The Hartford. You also have the option of buying additional, voluntary short-term and long-term disability coverage. Without disability coverage, you and your family may struggle to get by if you miss work due to an injury or illness. N3B pays for the full cost of short-term disability insurance, meaning that you owe nothing out of pocket.

Training Resources
We partner with local colleges and Universities to educate our future employees, as well as offer scholarships to enable local youth to attend college and persue degrees in the fields of environmental management and waste disposal, cleanup, storage and mitigation.
