N3B raises $10K to support LA Cares
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. – Last month, representatives of Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) presented a check for $10,278 to staff and board members of the non-profit organization LA Cares to support their food and financial assistance programs for Los Alamos County residents.
N3B employees, families, friends and subcontractors raised the money at the annual Danny Nichols Memorial Golf and Cornhole Tournament charity event on June 23.
“We value our relationship with LA Cares, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with them to improve the lives and prospects of so many residents in the Los Alamos community,” said Brad Smith, N3B president and general manager.

LA Cares President Lyn Haval said, “LA Cares is pleased and proud to partner with N3B to help minimize hunger and need in Los Alamos County. N3B’s annual fundraiser represents our largest single source of funds to support our work each year.”
This was the fourth year N3B hosted the fundraiser to support LA Cares, according to Debby Holgerson, N3B’s tournament director. “The weather and grounds were beautiful, and we want to thank the Los Alamos County Golf Course and Cottonwood on the Greens for hosting our event. Thanks also to Tech2 Solutions, Longenecker & Associates and Energy Solutions, our sub-contractor sponsors.”
The annual LA Cares fundraiser is just one way N3B supports local organizations in Northern New Mexico.
N3B has made a commitment to provide five percent of its earned fee over the life of the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract to local workforce development initiatives and nonprofit community organizations in Northern New Mexico.
Nonprofit groups in Northern New Mexico interested in partnering with N3B in the areas of education, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic and community activities can find instructions for submitting funding requests on N3B’s website at https://n3b-la.com/community-contributions/.
