N3B Sponsors Chris Dracup and the Funk of the West at Los Alamos Summer Concert Series; Announcing Major Investment in Environmental Education
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. — Newport News Nuclear BWXT- Los Alamos LLC (N3B) will proudly sponsor Chris Dracup and the Funk of the West at the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series on Friday, July 24, at Ashley Pond. The Taos‑based six‑piece dance band will take the stage at 7:20 p.m., bringing its signature blend of funk, soul and Southwestern rhythm to one of the region’s most popular summer events.
As part of the evening’s festivities, N3B will announce a significant, multi‑year financial commitment to expanding environmental education opportunities for students in both the Pojoaque Valley and Los Alamos school districts. This investment will support two key programs:
- J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee — providing a hands‑on hydrology program and Valles Caldera field experience for Pojoaque Valley Middle School students.
- Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation — supporting enhanced environmental science programming for Los Alamos elementary school students.
“We are proud to invest in educational experiences that connect students with the unique environmental landscape of our region,” said Brad Smith, N3B president and general manager. “These programs help young learners understand the science, history and responsibility tied to caring for our environment.”
N3B’s support will allow both programs to operate for several years, strengthening place‑based environmental learning and fostering the next generation of stewards of Northern New Mexico’s natural resources.
