N3B’s support of Northern New Mexico communities outlined in 2022 annual report

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. – N3B Los Alamos contributed nearly $370,000 to community nonprofits and workforce development initiatives in Northern New Mexico during 2022, according to the environmental cleanup company’s newly released 2022 Community Commitment Annual Report.

The contributions reflect N3B’s commitment to improve the quality of life across the region — especially by addressing the needs of historically underserved populations, promoting economic development, and advancing educational opportunities across various age groups in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

Contributions stem from a commitment N3B and its parent companies made to invest in the region, which includes giving back to the community 5% of N3B’s award fee over the life of its contract. N3B is the primary contractor for the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management, tasked with addressing environmental impacts from Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) historical operations.

Of the approximately $370,000 contributed last year, more than $250,000 was committed to local workforce development initiatives, primarily through N3B’s Nuclear Operator Apprenticeship Program, offered in conjunction with Northern New Mexico College. Two students graduated from the program in 2022, earning associate degrees in Nuclear Operations Technology. Both now work full time for N3B, assisting in the environmental cleanup mission to process and ship off-site LANL’s radiological and hazardous waste generated during the Manhattan Project and Cold War.

In 2022, N3B employees also logged nearly 1,500 volunteer hours outside work, supporting 21 local nonprofits. Employees invested their time in youth sports and development, local culture, education and emergency response.

“Individually and as an organization, we love Northern New Mexico,” said Kim Lebak, N3B president and general manager. “We’re eager to do our part to make sure this area thrives and that all of its residents thrive as well.”

As part of its commitment to the Northern New Mexico community, N3B supported and engaged with the Española and Los Alamos chambers of commerce in 2022 — organizations that are working diligently to enhance the region’s business environment.
